Herniated/bulging discs

Spinal discs are the spacers between the spinal bones. They work like little cushions to help transmit load, pressure and absorb shock throughout the spinal column. When there is a disruption to this system from an automobile, sporting or even daily living injury, the result is often a herniated disc. A herniated disc is a condition where the gelatinous (center) portion of the spinal disc bursts out of the fibrous (outer) portion of the disc causing severe neck and back pain, nerve impingement, sciatica, numbness and tingling to name a few conditions. Bulging discs are similar to herniated discs where the disc expands beyond its normal parameters often leading to the symptoms of neck and back pain, nerve impingement, sciatica, numbness and tingling. Bulging discs however, are typical of a degenerating process of the spine. Treatment options can include spinal decompression, traction, chiropractic adjustments and functional rehab exercises.
